The LIV Golf continues to add golfers to its list of participants at the expense of the PGA Tour, which saw another of its athletes leave for the new world golf circuit mainly due to a juicy offer that ended up being impossible to refuse.
He is Bubba Watson, a 43-year-old veteran golfer who has won the Masters twice in his PGA Tour career, in addition to ten other tournaments. James Corrigan of The Telegraph reported that Watson will receive more than $50 million after joining LIV Golf and will also receive immediate recognition after joining the circuit, as he will be named as captain of one of the 12 teams in the first event in which he participates.
Watson is expected to make his tour debut during September at the event to be held in Boston, Massachusetts, where he is sure to be welcomed with open arms by both the fans in attendance and other golfers.
Why did Bubba Watson decide to join LIV Golf?
Clearly Bubba Watson is no longer in the best years of his career and is closer to retirement than to his prime, so the proposal made by LIV Golf seemed too good to pass up .
Watson, who is ranked as the #86 golfer in the world, has missed a large portion of the season this 2022 due to a knee injury, and in the face of the danger that comes with it at his current age, securing his future with the large amount of money he was paid might have been the best option.
Likewise, Bubba Watson will not be lonely at LIV Golf, as he will see old acquaintances who also made the switch from the PGA Tour such as Dustin Johnson, Sergio Garcia, Phil Mickelson, Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau.
However, considering the sanctions issued by the PGA Tour to golfers who switched to the new golf circuit, we will probably not see Watson compete in a golf major again for the rest of his career.However, this may be something he cares little about at this point after a distinguished career in the sport.
