There’s less than 6 days to go until the Atlanta Falcons and Detroit Lions kick off their preseason on August 12 in a game at the home of the felines.
While we don’t know how both teams will fare in the upcoming NFL season, the Falcons’ prospects appear to be less promising than the Lions’ following Matt Ryan’s departure.
Both organizations are in the midst of restructuring, but Atlanta is in its first year, while Detroit is already working to have a team that can compete in a short period of time.

The Atlanta Falcons are projected to be one of the worst teams in the NFL this upcoming season after many shortcomings on both the offensive and defensive lines.
One player who will have to make the most of these preseason games is quarterback Marcus Mariota, who will be replacing the legendary Matt Ryan and will have to cope with both one of the weakest offensive lines in the league in front of him, and with a group of receivers with a rookie as their best weapon.
As for its defensive line, one of the worst in the league in 2021, there was not much improvement either, and in August it will start out against Jared Goffa quarterback who raises a lot of questions. That makes the game a litmus test for Atlanta’s defense, since if they don’t perform well against Goff, what can we expect from them against an outstanding quarterback?
Betting on the Detroit Lions
- Record: 0-0
- Spread: -2.5
- Moneyline: -120
- Over/Under: 32
The Detroit Lions lack the tools to make a splash in 2022, but on paper, they appear to be superior to their Week 1 preseason opponents.
The organization was able to acquire Aidan Hutchinson as the second overall pick in the draft, a defensive wing who has the potential to assist Detroit’s offensive line improve from prior seasons and who can start to shape up against a quarterback like Mariota who won’t ask much of them.
Regarding offense, we already talked about Goff being in charge. His performance has been fairly inconsistent in his time in the NFL, but the Lions don’t have a better option. The good news is that their offensive line looks solid and will likely provide good protection against a Falcons defense that ranked last in catches in the league last year.
JefeBet Prediction
We’ve already stated that neither team will be up to fighting in 2022, but the Lions have made some fascinating moves and should win this match. This should end with a 20-10 victory for Detroit.
