This weekend starts the new season of the NASCAR Cup Series with the Busch Light Clash at The Coliseum, and with it, we return to the excitement of watching the 52nd season that will run from February to November 2023 with a total of 36 races across the United States to choose the champion.
Last season was won by Joey Logano, who successfully captured his second Cup Series title, followed by Ross Chastain, Christopher Bell, and Chase Elliott. Chase Elliott (Odds +800)
First, we have the 2022 regular season winner and 2020 NASCAR Cup Series winner. Chase Elliott had a 2022 with five top podium wins, seven top 5 positions, and eight top 10 positions. He scored 5009 points and was 31 points behind the winner, Joey Logano.
He will undoubtedly want to start the season in the best way possible to score points from now on and secure a lead in the drivers’ standings. Because of this, he is the first of our picks for the 2023 Busch Light Clash at The Coliseum.
Kyle Larson (Odds +800)
In second place we have Kyle Larson, a driver who is relentless and who ranked seventh in the Drivers’ Championship standings in 2022, meaning he failed to qualify for the Top 4 championship. In fact, he was eliminated after the round of 12.
In addition, in the 2022 season he won 3 races, obtained nine top 5 positions, and five top 10 positions. This is a good result that he will undoubtedly want to improve on during 2023 to reach the final rounds of the playoffs and perhaps compete for the championship.
Joey Logano (Odds +800)
Our third favorite is the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series winner, Joey Logano. This driver, although he did not accumulate as many victories (4), managed to be always at the right place, at the right time, which helped him to score points in almost every race and generate difficulties for his track mates.
Additionally, he had 7 top 5 and 6 top 10 positions for a total of 5040 points for the season. This is a driver who will be looking to repeat the feat this year and will begin to accomplish that goal at the Busch Light Clash at The Coliseum.
Sleeper Picks
Kyle Busch (Odds +800)
Veteran Kyle Busch is the first of our sleeper picks. The driver of the famous M&M’s car finished 13th in last year’s Drivers’ Championship, and while he did qualify for the first round of the playoffs, he did not make it to the second round and exited alongside Austin Dillon, Tyler Reddick, and Kevin Harvick.
Nevertheless, he is a pilot who is always in the spotlight and constantly manages to surprise everybody. Last year, he got just one win with five top 5 positions and nine top 10 positions. He may be able to surprise at Busch Light Clash at The Coliseum.
Christopher Bell (Odds +900)
The second sleeper pick is young Christopher Bell, who placed third in the Drivers’ Championship last year and was a surprise in the penultimate race of the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series as he won in the Xfinity 500.
In addition, he won the Ambetter 301 and Bank of America Roval 400 races. What helped him the most to achieve that final position in the championship was his consistency during the playoff races, his 9 positions in the top 5 and 8 positions in the top 10.
Dark Horse
Ryan Blaney (Odds +1000)
Finally, we have Ryan Blaney as the dark horse for the Busch Light Clash at The Coliseum. This driver finished 8th last year and was eliminated from the playoffs after the round of 8. Although without any victories, he had some incredible results that allowed him to stay alive.
In fact, what helped Blaney quite a bit were the impressive 12 times he finished within the top 5 and the 5 times within the top 10. Thus, he scored 2354 points during the regular season and finished well in the last two races.

The Busch Light Clash at The Coliseum will not be an easy race, that’s never the case with the early circuits, especially this edition of the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series. However, Kyle Larson is up to the task and may be the most likely to win because of his competitiveness and consistency over the years in NASCAR.
