The field is set for the 2023 MLB Home Run Derby. While 2022 champion Juan Soto is not going to be in Seattle to defend his crown, there will not be a shortage of star power and REAL POWER in this upcoming event on Saturday.

Favorites
Pete Alonso (+275 on DraftKings)
The Mets aren’t doing very well in the 2023 MLB regular season, but when it comes to smashing home runs, they have one of the best in the business in the form of Pete Alonso. The Polar Bear has 25 home runs this year, as of this writing, and is also gunning for his third Home Run Deby title. He won the event the first time in 2019 and then again in 2021. Alonso is also the all-time Home Run Derby leader in homers with 176.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (+350 on DraftKings)
The second-generation MLB star is a scary force at the plate. Vlad Jr. can really punish the baseball, and everyone has already seen (and felt) his power in this kind of setting. Back in 2019, he set a record for most home runs in a round when he clobbered 40 home runs in the semifinals. He reached the finals of the tournament but lost by the thinnest of margins to Alonso, 23-22. Guerrero is not hitting home runs at the rate he used to in previous seasons, but he’s got the power that can propel him to the top of the Derby.
Luis Robert Jr. (+450 on DraftKings)
This will be the first time Robert will participate in the Home Run Derby, and it’s just about time everyone sees him compete. He has already set a new career high in home runs in a season this year with 25 dingers to date. Prior to this season, he never had more than 13 in a year. In 2022, he hit 12 home runs in 98 games and 401 plate appearances, but this season, he was able to match that HR total in just 42 games and 173 plate appearances.
Sleepers
Mookie Betts (+700 on DraftKings)
The Los Angeles Dodgers star doesn’t need to join the Home Run Derby for everyone to know that he’s one of the best baseball players today, but he will give it a go. Betts is on pace to set a new personal record for most home runs in a season. Through 83 games played, Betts has 23 home runs. He needs 13 more to tie his career-high of 35, which was set just a year ago. Betts will face Guerrero in the first round of the 2023 MLB Home Run Derby, a matchup that he has a good chance of pulling off a mild upset.
Randy Arozarena (+850 on DraftKings)
Arozarena is built for such events like the All-Star Home Run Derby. He’s got the personality and, of course, the power to make at least a deep run in the event. Arozarena has hit 16 home runs in his first 84 games played in the 2023 MLB regular season. He needs four more home runs to tie his career-high of 20 dingers. Barring injuries or any catastrophic reasons, he is a lock to break his personal record and establish a new one before the end of this season. As for his chances at the 2023 Home Run Derby, let’s just say that you shouldn’t sleep on the Tampa Bay Rays star.
Long Shot
Adley Rutschman (+1200 on DraftKings)
Rutschman is playing in just his second year in the big leagues, but Baltimore Orioles fans have seen enough of the catcher to believe that he is a future cornerstone of the franchise – if he isn’t already. Rutschman hit 11 home runs in 470 plate appearances in 2022 and has 11 in 368 plate appearances this season.

Pete Alonso is on a mission here. He wants that third Derby title, and with his experience and proven ability to thwart the competition in this event, he is a good bet to top the field.
