Betting on the Los Angeles Angels (+145)
The Angels are looking for their way out of a slump after getting swept in a three-game series by the San Diego Padres at Petco Park. On the mound for the Halos later tonight will be Griffin Canning, who picked up a loss in his most recent start. Against the Arizona Diamondbacks at home last week, Canning allowed five earned runs on three hits with nine strikeouts in six innings of a 6-2 loss. He struggled with his location in that game, as he also gave up four walks, but when he’s on, he can really strike people out. On the season, Canning carries a 24.0 K% along with a 2.66 BABIP.
Without Mike Trout out, the Angels could rely on Eduardo Escobar to provide action at the plate. Escobar is 5-for-15 with a double and two home runs in his career against Dodgers starter Tony Gonsolin. Taylor Ward, meanwhile, has hit .278 with three walks in his last six games. Don’t forget about Shohei Ohtani, who’s still leading the majors with 31 home runs.
Starting pitcher: Griffin Canning (6-3, 4.29 ERA)

Gonsolin is also hoping to turn things around after a disastrous start. He was punished for four earned runs on six hits in just 3.2 innings of work on the mound during a 9-1 road loss to the Kansas City Royals last Sunday. He has given up 15 earned runs in his last three starts covering 14.1 innings. With the Angels playing without Trout, Gonsolin can find it easier to suppress Los Angeles’ offense.
As for their offense, the Dodgers are stacked, with Mookie Betts, JD Martinez, and Freddie Freeman leading the way. Betts has 23 homers this season and went 2-for-4 in the Dodgers’ 5-2 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday. Freeman was also 3-for-4 in that contest, while Martinez has 20 homers on the season for the Dodgers, who will enter this coming series with a 4-1 record in their last five games versus a team that’s sporting a winning record.
