Betting on the Houston Astros (+155)
Ronel Blanco is going to get another start for the Astros. In his most recent start, Blanco gave up a total of five earned runs on seven hits while allowing two walks in 5.2 innings of a 9-7 home loss to the Cincinnati Reds last Sunday. So far this June, Blanco is 1-0 with a 4.76 ERA.
Blanco is not a regular starter for the Astros, and he’s still trying to build a better resume, but a little improvement in his control can go a long way against the Dodgers. He has struck out five hitters in each of his last three starts through 17.0 innings but has also given up nine walks. If anything, Blanco has always enjoyed healthy run support from his teammates. In fact, among Astros starters, he has the second-highest run support per nine innings (5.82).
Starting pitcher: Ronel Blanco (1-0, 4.66 ERA)
Betting on the Los Angeles Dodgers (-180)
Bobby Miller is looking to get back on track after his smooth stretch to start to his career in the big leagues got derailed bu a bad performance last Saturday against the San Francisco Giants. In that game, he allowed seven earned runs on seven hits with three walks issued and five strikeouts in 5.2 innings of a 15-0 loss at home.
One bad loss shouldn’t wash away all the good things he did on the mound prior to that game against San Francisco. In his first four starts, he went 3-1 with a 0.78 ERA and 2.19 FIP while holding opponents down to only .150 batting average. Miller is also still undefeated in road games, going 2-0 with just an earned run allowed on seven hits through 11.0 innings in two starts. Before he ran into the Giants, Miller stymied the Philadelphia Phillies in a 9-0 victory on the road on June 10, tossing six scoreless innings with seven strikeouts.
Starting pitcher: Bobby Miller (3-1, 2.83 ERA)
El Jefe’s Prediction on Houston Astros vs Los Angeles Dodgers
Bobby Miller gets back to his top form and manages the Astros’ offense admirably. And with the Dodgers’ bullpen seemingly being better of late, I’m going to go with Los Angeles to win this one.
Prediction:
The Dodgers win, 4-3.
