Betting on the Houston Astros

Astros vs Phillies Predictions Picks Betting Odds
  • Season record:  113-56
  • Regular season vs Phillies: 2-1
  • Runline of BetMGM:  +105
  • Moneyline of BetMGM  : -161
  • Over/Under from BetMGM (7.5): -105 / -115

Whether the Astros win or lose this World Series, their name is already etched in baseball’s history books as they threw the second no-hitter in World Series history and the first since Don Larsen’s perfect game in 1956. This helped them win 5-0 and level the series 2-2, ensuring that it will be decided at home.

The combined no-hitter featured Cristian Javier, who earlier accomplished the same feat against the New York Yankees during the regular season, and now the Astros will throw the ball over to veteran Justin Verlander to keep the party going in Game 5.

However, Verlander’s postseason has been anything but good, having allowed 5 or more runs in two of his three appearances thus far, with one of those being in Game 1 of this series (5.0 IP, 6 H, 5 ER, 5 K, 2 BB).

Starting pitcher: Justin Verlander (18-4, 175.0 IP, 1.75 ERA, 0.83 WHIP / 1-0, 15.0 IP, 7.20 ERA, 1.53 WHIP in postseason).

Injured players:  Michael Brantley (shoulder), Jason Castro (knee), Josh James (forearm).

Betting on the Philadelphia Phillies

Astros vs Phillies Predictions Picks Betting Odds
  • Season record:  87-75
  • Regular season vs Astros : 1-2
  • Runline of Unibet: -134
  • Moneyline of Unibet: +132
  • Over/Under from Unibet (7.5): -107 / -114

The Philadelphia Phillies faced the humiliation of becoming the second team in World Series history to receive a no-hitter, and it happened in front of their own fans, which was unexpected given their lineup’s offensive power throughout the postseason.

This is the second combined no-hitter the Phillies have received this MLB season, with the previous one occurring in April against the New York Mets. In fact, both games featured the same Philadelphia starter, Aaron Nola, who now becomes only the third pitcher in history to open multiple games in a single season in which his team suffers such a loss.

Even though this certainly has left a sour taste in their mouths, they will have to overcome this to capitalize on their final home appearance in this series, which will include Noah Syndergaard as the starter. However, given his role in this postseason, he will almost certainly be deployed as a starter and won’t see many innings.

Starting pitcher: Noah Syndergaard (10-10, 134.2 IP, 3.94 ERA, 1.26 WHIP / 0-0, 5.1 IP, 1.69 ERA, 0.75 WHIP in postseason).

Injured players:  Corey Knebel (shoulder), Kent Emmanuel (shoulder), Damon Jones (shoulder), Simon Muzziotti (kneecap), James McArthur (elbow).

JefeBet Prediction

If Phillies manager Rob Thompson’s plan is to make this game one where he uses the bullpen exclusively while resting his starters for upcoming games, it may work out quite well.

Out of the 12 runs Philadelphia has allowed in this series, 9 were allowed by their starters while another happened due to a fielding error. The bullpen is one of the most reliable weapons the Phillies have had so far, and, in addition to that, Syndergaard has allowed just one run in his last 13.0 innings pitched.

To dream of another no-hitter is unrealistic on Houston’s part, especially considering the contrasting level of Justin Verlander in this postseason compared to the regular season. With the Phillies hungry for revenge after what happened yesterday, Philadelphia may have enough to leave home with a series lead.

Prediction: Philadelphia Phillies Moneyline (HOU 2 – PHI 5)
