One good inning has been enough for the Houston Astros to define each of the first two games in their favor in a series that has been fairly even so far, and they will hope to continue on this path to have another chance at the World Series after losing last year’s series to the Atlanta Braves.
Cristian Javier, their assigned starter for this Game 3, will try to follow the path traced by the pitchers who preceded him, and will try to last longer than what he did in his previous appearance in this postseason, in which he pitched just 1.1 innings against the Seattle Mariners and allowed one hit and one run.
Starting Pitcher: Cristian Javier (11-9, 2.54 ERA, 0.95 WHIP)
Injured: Michael Brantley (shoulder), Jason Castro (knee), Josh James (forearm).
Betting on the New York Yankees
- Regular Season Record: 99-63
- Regular season vs Astros: 2-5
- Runline of Unibet: +148
- Moneyline of Unibet: -148
- Over/Under from Unibet (7): -108 / -110
The New York Yankees, who are looking to make their first World Series appearance since 2009, are starting to find their backs against the wall after losing the first two games. While their pitching has helped them, a lineup that has connected for just nine hits through the first two games has prevented them from winning, including four in Game 2.
The starter for the “Bronx Bombers” will be Gerrit Cole, who will be facing one of his former teams in his career. Cole has pitched twice previously this postseason, both times against Cleveland, and the Yankees won both times after the starter went over 6.0 innings and struck out exactly eight batters each time. In this way, they’ll be hoping to count on his magic on the mound again.
Starting Pitcher: Gerrit Cole (13-8, 3.50 ERA, 1.02 WHIP)
Injured: Zach Britton (shoulder), Chad Green (elbow), Michael King (elbow), Luis Gil (elbow), Stephen Ridings (shoulder), Ron Marinaccio (calf).
JefeBet Prediction
The Astros have taken advantage of the great performances of their starters to win the first two games, but in this one they will count on Cristian Javier, who had little participation in his first postseason opener. We mustn’t forget, though, that the Dominican was part of Houston’s combined no-hitter against the Yankees during the regular season.
However, New York will have their best starting pitcher on the mound at this point in the season, with Cole having a WHIP of 0.90; still, his previous two performances were against Cleveland’s offense, and this time it will face one that could prove to be more complicated.
Even so, we believe Cole can come out on top in this matchup and the Yankees will once again take advantage of a quality opening from him, coupled with the fact that they will be motivated not only by playing at home and wanting to avoid being on the ropesbut to avenge the no-hitter they received months ago.
Prediction: New York Yankees Moneyline (HOU 2 – NYY 4)
