The Dodgers will send 24-year-old Gavin Stone to the mound for this series opener against Atlanta. Stone is making just his second career start in the big leagues. In the first start of his career – and of this season – Stone tossed for four innings and surrendered four earned runs on eight hits with a strikeout and two walks in a 10-6 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies at home last Wednesday.
Stone came away with a no-decision thanks to the Dodgers’ offense. He hopes to get robust run support again this Monday versus the Braves. Speaking of which, Freddie Freeman is batting .364 with four home runs and 19 RBI so far this month of May. Active Dodgers players also have a career .336 wOBA against Atlanta starter Charlie Morton.
Starting pitcher: Gavin Stone (0-0, 9.00 ERA)
Betting on the Atlanta Braves
- Season record 2023: 29-17
- Moneyline: (-150)
- Run Line: (-1.5, +130)
- Over/Under: (9.0)

While the Dodgers will get a start from a youngster for this game, the Braves will have a grizzled veteran on the mound, as the 39-year-old Charlie Morton gets ready to step on the mound later tonight. Morton has looked pretty solid of late. Over his last two starts, he allowed just two earned runs on 12 hits with 17 strikeouts across 12.2 innings. The Braves have also won in both those contests, including last Monday’s 12-0 victory over the Texas Rangers on the road.
Morton is sporting a high .323 BABIP this season, but he’s so good at keeping the ball within the field, as evidenced by his 8.7 HR/RB%. Plus, he is benefiting from the Braves’ offense which is providing him 7.99 runs per nine innings pitched. Ronald Acuna and Sean Murphy have been sensational of late for the Braves at the plate, as they brandish a 1.098 and a .947 May OPS, respectively.
Starting pitcher: Charlie Morton (5-3, 2.85 ERA)
JefeBet Prediction
Stone might be a bit steadier this time around than when he was in his big league debut, but it’s easier to trust Morton having a better night. Taking the Braves to win.
Prediction: The Braves win, 6-3.
