A future Hall of Famer will step on the mound for the Dodgers in this series finale, with Clayton Kershaw getting the call. The 35-year-old Kershaw is only 1-2 in three starts this month and is coming off a shaky outing when he allowed two earned runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts in four innings of a 5-1 loss at home to the Minnesota Twins last Tuesday.
However, Kershaw has proven himself over and over again in his career versus St. Louis. In fact, he is 10-5 with a 2.81 ERA and 1.089 WHIP in 20 career appearances against the Cardinals. Moreover, the current hitters of the Cardinals have just a combined xwOBA of 0.281 and a batting average of .234 against the lefty Kershaw. As for their offense, the Dodgers will love the chances for Freddie Freeman to provide activity at the plate, as he is 6-for-16 in his career against Jack Flaherty.

Flaherty tossed seven scoreless innings with just three hits allowed to go with 10 strikeouts in an 18-1 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers at home last Tuesday. Of course, it’s unlikely that the Cardinals will score that many runs again for the second start in a row of Flaherty, but it’s worth mentioning that he’s getting 5.83 runs in support per nine innings from Nolan Arenado and company.
Speaking of Arenado, he is 21-for-70 (.300) in his career with five home runs, 12 RBI, and three walks against Kershaw. Apart from Flaherty, the Cardinals’ bullpen is also another key on the mound for St. Louis, which is among the teams in the upper half of relievers ERA in the big leagues so far this season.
