Betting on the Los Angeles Dodgers (-115)
It’s been a rough last couple of stars for Emmet Sheehan. In two starts this July, Sheehan has already given up nine earned runs on nine hits with seven walks in just 8.2 total innings of work on the hill. That’s not great to look at. However, Sheehan might see some positive regression going his way in this matchup versus the Rangers.
Plus, there are always the bats of the likes of Mookie Betts, JD Martinez, and Freddie Freeman to count on whenever the pitching isn’t doing very well for the Dodgers. Betts seems to have a great read of Rangers starter Martin Perez’s stuff, as he is 6-for-14 with two doubles and a home run in his career matchup against Perez. Freeman is 3-for-4 with a home run in the same head-to-head. Martinez is only 1-for-11 against Perez, but just like Sheehan, he might be due for a great performance.

Betting on the Texas Rangers (-105)
After a disastrous outing in a 12-11 home loss to the Houston Astros on July 3 in which he surrendered six earned runs in just 1.1 innings, Perez put up a much more impressive performance last Sunday in a 6-5 victory against the Cleveland Guardians in Arlington., In that contest, Perez surrendered three earned runs on five hits in five innings.
Perez escaping with no decisions in those starts despite not having his best stuff with him says a lot about the quality of run support Texas pitchers are getting from their teammates. Martinez, for one, is getting 4.86 runs per nine innings pitched. As a team, the Rangers are inside the top five in the big leagues in offensive stats such as batting average, RBIs per game, and runs per contest.
