Betting on the Los Angeles Dodgers (-225)
Future Hall of Famer Clayton Kershaw will step on the mound for the Dodgers in this series finale. At 35 years old, Kershaw is still proving to be a scary pitcher to deal with for opposing hitters. In his most recent start, he stymied the New York Yankees, allowing just two earned runs on four hits while striking out nine in an 8-4 win at home last Friday.
Los Angeles has also won in each of Kershaw’s last two starts and in three of his last five. Cincinnati’s active roster has poor career numbers against Kershaw, as the Reds own just a .091 batting average and .080 wOBA versus the Dodgers lefty. As usual, Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts, and JD Martinez will be counted upon by the Dodgers to lift the team’s offense, with these three players leading the team in OPS this season.
Starting pitcher: Clayton Kershaw (7-4, 3.25 ERA)
Betting on the Cincinnati Reds (+190)
Making his second start of the month for the Reds is Graham Ashcraft, who is coming off an extremely atrocious performance. In his last start, Ashcraft allowed 10 earned runs on nine hits (two home runs) in just 4.0 innings of a 10-8 home loss to the Milwaukee Brewers last Saturday.
Hopefully, Aschraft had already emptied everything that’s bad about his pitching in that game, as he looks to recover this coming Thursday. Cincinnati’s bats, meanwhile, have shown that it can pull off a surprising performance when it stunned LA’s bullpen in a 9-8 victory in the series opener. The Reds will have to be patient and hope to have prolonged at-bats against Kershaw, who has not pitched in more than four innings in two of his last four starts. Jonathan India has batted .263 with three home runs in his last 14 games.
Starting pitcher: Graham Ashcraft (3-4, 6.64 ERA)
El Jefe’s Prediction on Los Angeles Dodgers vs Cincinnati Reds
The Dodgers lean on their offense in this game. Look for LA’s offense to shine against an uber-shaky Ashcraft, who has surrendered 20 earned runs across just 14.0 innings in his last three starts.
Prediction:
The Dodgers win, 8-3.
