Betting on the Los Angeles Dodgers (-210)
For the Dodgers, the starting duties on the mound this Friday will be in the hands of Bobby Miller, who hasn’t been particularly great of late. In his last start, he allowed six earned runs on 10 hits in four innings of an 8-7 home loss to the Houston Astros on June 24. Prior to that, he gave up seven earned runs on seven hits in 5.2 innings of a 15-0 loss, also at home, to the San Francisco Giants on June 17. However, he has been undefeated so far this year away from Dodger Stadium, with a 2-0 record and 0.82 ERA in two starts (11.0 innings).
The Dodgers can still rely on their offense, especially in this game in which they will be facing a rookie. Freddie Freeman, JD Martinez, and Mookie Betts could feast at the plate.
The Dodgers are 4-1 in their last five games in Kansas City.
Starting pitcher: Bobby Miller (3-1, 4.13 ERA)
Betting on the Kansas City Royals (+180)
Jordan Lyles was initially scheduled to start this game for Kansas City, but an illness got him scratched. Instead, the Royals will go for Alec Marsh, who has just been called up from the minors to face the Dodgers for his MLB debut. In Double-A and Triple-A stints this season, Marsh has recorded a 4.62 ERA to go along with a 1.52 WHIP plus a 75:31 K:BB across 62.1 innings in 14 starts.
The Royals, who are coming off a 4-3 win at home to close out a series against the Cleveland Guardians on Thursday, will look to provide ample run support behind the rookie. Drew Waters has been impressive of late, going 8-for-22 with two doubles in his last six games. Veteran Salvador Perez is batting .256 this season and leads the Royals with 15 home runs.
Starting pitcher: Alec Marsh (0-0, 0.00 ERA)
El Jefe’s Prediction on Los Angeles Dodgers vs Kansas City Royals
It’s hard to get excited over Marsh, as his numbers in the minors this season are simply not great. The Royals aren’t also hitting well, so we’ll just have to go with the Dodgers here. Los Angeles’ pathetic bullpen offers the Royals hope, but LA is still the safer pick.
Prediction:
The Dodgers win, 7-3.
