Washington hopes to prevent a three-game losing skid when it gives the ball to Jake Irvin, who will look to notch his first win in four starts. I
n his most recent mound appearance, Irvin allowed just two earned runs on two hits while striking out four in four innings of an 8-6 home loss to the San Diego Padres on May 25. Despite their losses lately, the Nationals are still third in the majors with a .264 batting average and eight with a .328 OBP. The win over the Nationals on Monday had the Dodgers returning in the win column just after they lost to the Tampa Bay Rays on the road last Saturday, 12-11. Los Angeles’ bats have been on fire of late, with the team scoring a total of 22 runs over the Dodgers’ last three outings. With the way Tony Gonsolin is pitching so far this season, though, Los Angeles might not need much from the offense to win.
Gonsolin has allowed zero runs in three of his last four starts. He’s also been solid when pitching at Dodger Stadium, as Gonsolin has a 1-0 record and 2.79 ERA in two home starts this year. J.D. Martinez has been terrific at the plate over the last several Dodgers games, with the designated hitter going 19-for-57 with six home runs and 18 RBI in his last 13 games.
