Rumors of talks between Ozzie Guillén and the Chicago White Sox for the Venezuelan to become the team’s manager again were confirmed Thursday afternoon.
As revealed by NBC Sports Chicago’s David Kaplan on KNXO’s radio hit show, the organization’s president, Jerry Reinsdorf, has reportedly met with the former White Sox strategist in recent days to negotiate his possible return.
After Tony LaRussa’s departure was confirmed, many names have been bandied about to take over the bullpen next season, including Astros bench coach Joe Espada and Phillies hitting coach Kevin Long.
These two look to be general manager Rick Hahn’s favorites, though Guillen may have the advantage because he is the name Reinsdorf has in mind for the coach position.
The White Sox have until Thursday at midnight to make the official announcement, as the MLB Commissioner’s office asked teams not to release any major news during the World Series period that begins this Friday. In this way, the latest rumors seem to indicate that Ozzie will be the choice by the major command of the Windy City franchise.
