Betting on the San Diego Padres (-115)
The Padres are coming off a frustrating series against the Philadelphia Phillies on the road during which they won just once and lost three times, including their 7-6 defeat in extra innings in the finale last Sunday. The good news for the Padres is that they will have Joe Musgrove stepping on the mound this Tuesday.
Musgrove has been terrific for San Diego of late. He has lowered his ERA gradually over his last five starts. In his most recent outing, he allowed zero earned runs on three hits with seven strikeouts in 6.0 innings of a 6-2 victory at home over the New York Mets on July 9. Backing up Musgrove is San Diego’s offense that will once again lean on the likes of Manny Machado (.317/6 homers in last 11 games) and Xander Bogaerts (.279/two homers in last 11 games).
Starting pitcher: Joe Musgrove (8-2, 3.29 ERA)
Betting on the Toronto Blue Jays (-105)
Alex Manoah will take a heat check this Tuesday after a fantastic performance in his return to the majors. In his first start in over a month, Manoah held the Detroit Tigers to just an earned run on five hits with eight strikeouts in 6.0 innings of a 12-2 victory on the road on July 7.
That was Manoah’s first pitching win since April. Feeling rejuvenated, Manoah will look to conquer the inconsistent Padres, whose current roster only has a career .125 batting average against him. As for their own offense, the Blue Jays have second baseman Whit Merrifield on a roll. Merrifield has hit .333 with four homers and 12 RBIs in his last 10 games. Also watch out for Daulton Varsho, who is 4-for-11 with a home run and two doubles against Musgrove.
Starting pitcher: Alek Manoah (2-7, 5.91 ERA)
