The Padres will have one more crack at a win in this series, and they will have Blake Snell on the mound to help them get to that goal. Snell is coming off a sterling performance, as he allowed zero earned runs on two hits in six innings of a 2-0 victory over the majors-leading Tampa Bay Rays last Saturday at home.
He also had 12 strikeouts against the Rays – his second start in a row with as many punchouts. Snell has been incredible of late, having surrendered just an earned run over his last four starts that stretched 25 innings. San Diego is 4-0 in its last Game 3s of a series. Also, the Padres are 7-3 in their last 10 games after a loss. Manny Machado will come into this game hoping to add to his success when up against Alex Wood. He is 4-for-13 with two walks against Wood in his career.

San Francisco is on fire. The Giants now have a 10-game win streak going for them after their win over the Padres Wednesday night. However, star outfielder Mike Yastrzemski suffered an injury that might cause him to miss Thursday’s contest. Still, the like of Joc Pederson
and JD Davis can provide a lift for the Giants, who will give Alex Wood the starting duties.
Wood was fantastic in his first start after over two weeks of absence. Against the Dodgers last Saturday, Wood held his former team to zero runs on three hits allowed with four strikeouts in a 15-0 victory on the road. The Giants have won in four of his last five starts. Pederson hit .311 with three home runs and 10 RBI in his last 13 games while Davis batted .286 with a home run and seven RBI in the same stretch.
