The offense was simply not there for the Padres in that contest, but they will have another shot at Miami’s pitching in this Thursday’s series finale. As usual, Juan Soto will be a chief weapon for the Padres at the plate, Soto has gone 10-for-35 in his last 12 games across 35 at-bats, during which he also had a .490 OBP and an OPS of 1.061, thanks in large part to his 14 walks.
Soto leads all qualified hitters in the majors this season with a 22.1 BB%. Another key hitter to watch out for over at the side of the Padres is Xander Bogaerts, who is batting .257/.346/.396 to go with seven home runs and 20 RBI this season. Joe Musgrove will be on the mound for the Padres after he allowed zero earned runs on six hits in 6.1 innings of a 5-1 win in the Bronx last Friday.

The Marlins are back to their winning ways after taking care of business on Wednesday. Their pitching was on point in that contest, and that’s what Jesus Luzardo is looking to continue when he starts this Thursday. In his last outing, he limited the Los Angeles Angels to just an earned run and seven hits while striking out seven in 5.0 innings of work in a 6-2 victory on the road.
Luzardo has been dependable at home this season, as he has a 1-1 record and a 2.57 ERA in six starts at LoanDepot Park, so far in the 2023 MLB campaign. Luzardo should feel confident in his stuff versus the Padres, considering that the current set of San Diego players only has a collective batting average of .194 along with a .199 wOBA across 38 plate appearances versus the Marlins lefty.
