Betting on the San Diego Padres (-125)
Blake Snell was not voted nor selected to the All-Star Game this year, but he’s pitched like an All-Star over his past couple of starts. The former Cy Young Award winner has allowed zero earned runs in four of his last five starts.
The only start in that stretch where he surrendered a run? He gave up just two in six innings of work in a 7-1 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates on the road on June 28. Snell enters this matchup versus the Phillies with just a 1-3 record in nine road starts this year, but has a 2.72 ERA through those contests as well. Rougned Odor and Juan Soto could help Snell out with their bats as they are a combined 9-for-21 with a home run and two doubles all-time against Phillies starter Taijuan Walker.

Betting on the Philadelphia Phillies (+105)
Like Snell, Taijuan Walker isn’t an All-Star this year, but he’s been solid in general of late. While he was not sharp at all in his last start in which he allowed four earned runs and issued five walks with eight strikeouts in an 8-4 win on the road against the Tampa Bay Rays on July 5, that was just the first time in six appearances that he surrendered more than a run.
For the record, Walker is 4-0 with a 2.33 ERA in his last four starts. The Phillies have also won in all of his last six starts. Walker is also being blessed with a healthy run support. Philadelphia is providing him with 5.61 runs per nine innings.
Starting pitcher: Taijuan Walker (10-3, 4.02 ERA)

Betting on the San Diego Padres (+115)
Ryan Weathers gets called up again from the minors and he will be starting the second game of the doubleheader against the Phillies Saturday night. In any case, San Diego can count on their offense. Although they are not ranking high on several offensive numbers, the Padres undeniably have immense star power in their batting order. Juan Soto, Manny Machado, Fernando Tatis Jr., and Xander Bogaerts are all studs.
The Padres also have Austin Nola, who is batting .286 against Phillies starter Ranger Suarez all-time. But going back to their pitching, the Padres also check out as a team with a reliable bullpen. San Diego finished the first half of the season 12th overall in the big leagues with their relievers posting a 3.82 ERA.
Starting pitcher: Ryan Weathers (1-5, 6.08 ERA)
Betting on the Philadelphia Phillies (-135)
Suarez hasn’t been exactly shining on the mound of late. In his last two starts, he gave up eight earned runs on 15 hits in 11 innings of total work. But the 2023 MLB All-Star break could have also benefited Suarez. The extra rest must be a nice reset for Suarez, who is still looking good with his 1-2 record and a 2.87 ERA over his last five starts.
Suarez has confidence in Philadelphia’s offense to be there for him. Take for example Nick Castellanos, who led all qualified Phillies hitters at the end of the first half of the season with an. 840 OPS. Kyle Schwarber is another powerful bat for Philadelphia as well as Trea Turner, who is looking to be a much more consistent producer at the plate following a slow start to this stint with his new team.
Starting pitcher: Ranger Suarez (2-4, 3.77 ERA)

The Padres take the second game of the doubleheader with their offense stepping up to deliver the goods. Suarez has been winning in his individual matchup all-time against Juan Soto, but the Dominican slugger will find success at last against the pitcher in this contest.
