Betting on the San Diego Padres (-245)
Musgrove is back to being great again. After a bit of a slip-up in a 3-1 loss to the Detroit Tigers on the road on July 23 when he allowed three earned runs on seven hits in 6.0 innings, Musgrove held the Texas Rangers scoreless for six innings with five strikeouts in a 7-1 victory at home last Friday. Musgrove will enter tonight’s game with a 4-1 record and a 1.45 ERA in his last five starts.
Meanwhile, the Padres hope to get another big game from Juan Soto who had two home runs in Tuesday’s 8-5 win over the Rockies. But don’t sleep, of course, on Fernando Tatis Jr., who is 7-for-21 with a home run and two doubles in his career against Rockies starter Kyle Freeland.
Starting pitcher: Joe Musgrove (10-3, 3.05 ERA)
Betting on the Colorado Rockies (+200)
After failing to stretch their win streak to three games, the Rockies hope to return back in the win column right away when they give the starting duties to Freeland. The 30-year-old lefty went winless in three starts last July, notching a 4.32 ERA in the process. However, he looked good the last time he faced the Padres. In a 3-2 Rockies loss at home versus San Diego back in June, Freeland allowed just an earned run on six hits while also striking out five batters.
Ryan McMahon could be the guy to help Freeland get over San Diego later tonight. McMahon is 4-for-14 with two home runs and a double in his career versus Musgrove. As a team, the Rockies are hitting .268 at home this season.
