Kyle Freeland is expected to toe the rubber this Saturday for the Rockies, who have been getting inconsistent results whenever the veteran lefty is making a start. The Rockies have alternated wins with losses in Freeland’s last seven starts. And since they suffered a 2-0 road loss at the hands of the Kansas City Royals on the road in his most recent appearance, the trend suggests that they are going to have a good result this Saturday.
Even though they lost in that Royals game, Freeland looked solid in that contest, as he allowed two earned runs on four hits in 7.0 innings of work. Behind Freeland are Charlie Blackmon, Elias Dias, and Ryan McMahon, who are a combined 6-for-13 all-time against Weathers.

Ryan Weathers is projected to start in this upcoming contest in Denver and he will be looking to rebound from a poor performance in his last appearance. Against the Chicago Cubs last Sunday, Weathers racked up four earned runs on seven hits in just 1.2 innings of a 7-1 home loss.
This will be Weathers’ first appearance in a game against the Rockies since 2021, but his lack of recent experience against Colorado can be compensated by the Padres’ good hitting numbers against projected starter Kyle Freeland. Take for example Manny Machado, who is 12-for-41 with five walks in his career versus Freeland. There’s also Jake Cronenworth, who is 7-for-23 in that matchup. Trent Grisham is just 5-for-22 against Freeland but has three home runs off of the Rockies pitcher.
