The Padres are coming off a losing series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, winning just one of three games in the matchup. That series ended with San Diego absorbing a 5-2 loss last Sunday. Nevertheless, the Padres are still above .500 – barely. They will look to get back to their winning ways this Tuesday when they hand the ball to Michael Wacha, who is fresh off a solid start.
He tossed six innings of zero-run ball with just two hits allowed and two walks issued, albeit in a 2-1 loss to the Cincinnati Reds at home on May 2. On the season, Wacha is 2-1 with a 5.46 ERA and 1.40 WHIP. Wacha hopes that he will get better run support behind him this time around, though, it’s worth mentioning as well that Padres starters are getting just 4.41 runs per nine innings this season – 19th overall in the big leagues. FernandoTatis Jr. and Jake Croneworth have both been hot of late, however. Tatis has batted .321 with two home runs and four RBI in his last six games, while Croneworth has slashed .368.520/.368 with six walks over the same stretch.
Starting pitcher: Michael Wacha (2-1, 5.46 ERA).
Betting on the Minnesota Twins
- Regular Season Record: 19-16
- DraftKings Moneyline: -115
- DraftKings Run Line: +1.5, -195
- DraftKings Over/Under: 9.0
Like the Padres, the Twins also came out losing a prior three-game series against the Cleveland Guardians on the road. Minnesota won the series opener but lost the final two legs, during which the Twins were outscored, 6-3. Still, Minnesota is on top of the American League Central division with a 19-16 record. They also have a winning record at Target Center (10-6) and own the best run differential in the division with a plus-26.
That’s mostly because of their stellar pitching that is ranked inside the top five in the big leagues with a 3.33 ERA and second overall with a 1.13 WHIP. Speaking of which, Louie Varland will be toeing the rubber for the Twins this Tuesday for just his third start of the season. In his most recent outing, Varland surrendered four earned runs on seven hits with six strikeouts in 4.2 innings during a 6-4 road loss on May 3 to the Chicago White Sox. Twins catcher Christian Vazquez will look to provide some offensive support for Varland. The veteran catcher is 5-for-9 in his career against Wacha.
Starting pitcher: Louis Varland (0-0, 5.91ERA).
JefeBet Prediction
The Twins are last in the majors with a .220 batting average as of their series-finale 2-0 loss to Cleveland. That sounds great for Wacha, who will build on his strong performance in his last start to lead the Padres to a win.
Prediction: The Padres win, 5-3.
