The Phillies made it to this postseason as the last wild card and made history by participating in this stage of the season for the first time since 2011. The Philadelphia team made the most of its opportunity by dispatching the Central Division champion, the St. Louis Cardinals, and the East Division champion and reigning Major League Baseball champion Atlanta Braves in the divisional series.
Now they will face an opponent that also made the same way to the playoffs, and they will rely on Zack Wheeler to lead them to victory in Game 1, which will be his third start in this postseason. While his first one against the Cardinals was pretty good (he didn’t allow any runs in 6.1 innings) the last one against the Braves saw him allow 3 clean runs and 4 hits in 6.0 innings.
Starting pitcher: Zack Wheeler (12-7, 2.82 ERA, 1.04 WHIP).
Injured: Corey Knebel (shoulder), Kent Emmanuel (shoulder), Damon Jones (shoulder), Simon Muzziotti (kneecap).
Betting on the San Diego Padres
- Season record: 89-73
- Regular season vs Phillies: 3-4

- Moneyline Unibet: -125
- Over/Under Unibet (6.5): -124 / +105
The San Diego Padres pulled off the biggest upset of this 2022 MLB postseason by being the ones in charge of eliminating the Dodgers, the team with the best record in the regular season. Before that, they dispatched another big favorite, the Mets, to reach this National League championship series for the first time since 1998, and will want to continue their dream road to the World Series.
The home team will have the help of veteran Yu Darvish, who will be their starter for this game. Similar to Wheeler, Nippon looked solid in his first appearance this postseason by allowing one run and six hits in 7.0 innings against the Mets, but in the second he allowed 3 runs and 3 HR in 5.0 innings against the Dodgers.
Starting pitcher: Yu Darvish (16-8, 3.10 ERA, 0.95 WHIP).
Injured: Drew Pomeranz (elbow), Austin Adams (forearm).
JefeBet Prediction
Both organizations have looked excellent this postseason, which makes us think that this series could go either way. Also, we believe this game won’t lack runs.
The Phillies’ offense is on fire after scoring an average of 6 runs in their four games against Atlanta, and before that they managed to come back from a deficit by scoring six times in the ninth inning against the Cardinals, which makes their lineup the best in all of MLB this postseason. On top of all this, they scored three runs off Darvish the last time they faced him.
The Padres did a slightly more subdued job against the Dodgers’ excellent pitching staff, but against the Phillies they could find a little more scoring room, so both teams could do their part for the over.
Prediction:Over (PHI 5 – SD 4)
