Betting on the Pittsburgh Pirates (+185)
Ortiz escaped a pitching loss in his last start, thanks to the Pirates putting up enough runs on the board for a 5-4 victory at home over the San Diego Padres last Thursday. The 24-year-old Ortiz was responsible for all four of the Padres’ runs in that game. Nevertheless, Pittsburgh is now 2-0 in Ortiz’s last two starts and 3-3 in his last six.
Perhaps making an appearance away from home is going to be great for Ortiz, who, in his most recent road start, allowed just an earned run on seven hits with five strikeouts in 8.0 innings of a 3-1 victory against the Miami Marlins on June 23. That was actually Ortiz’s first road win in five starts this season, so perhaps he has just kicked off a positive pitching trend when he’s toeing the rubber in enemy territory.

So far, so good for Emmet Sheehan of the Dodgers in his adventure in the big leagues. He has picked up a win in each of his last two starts, including in a 14-3 victory over the Colorado Rockies on the road last Thursday in which he surrendered three earned runs on seven hits in five innings.
Before that, he churned out the best start of his very young MLB career, as he held the Houston Astros down to just a couple of earned runs on three hits with four strikeouts in 6.0 innings of a 3-2 win at Dodger Stadium. In 12 total innings at home this year, Sheehan has allowed just two earned runs with seven strikeouts. Backed by the Dodgers’ offense that is supplying him with 10.0 runs per nine innings, Sheehan will have all the confidence he needs to take care of business against the Pirates.
