Corey Kluber has been decent of late for the Red Sox, but he will look to have his strongest performance yet this May when he takes the mound Sunday. Kluber is 1-1 with 10 earned runs on 19 hits and 13 strikeouts across his last three starts. That’s not much to write home about, but Kluber is also benefiting from a robust Red Sox offense.
Boston provides one of the fattest run supports for its starters this season. Kluber has been susceptible to the long ball this season with an 18.0 percent HR/FB rate, but he might not have to worry much about San Diego’s power, as the Padres have one of the lowest slugging percentages in the majors at the moment. Kluber also has an impressive .274 BABIP so far in the 2023 MLB regular season.
Starting pitcher: Corey Kluber (2-5, 6.41 ERA)
Betting on the San Diego Padres
- Season record 2023: 20-26
- Moneyline: (-145)
- Run Line: (-1.5, +140)
- Over/Under: (9.0)

The Padre shave full trust in Michael Wacha, who gets to start this Sunday versus the Red Sox. Wacha, who formerly played for the Red Sox, has been on a roll of late. Over his last two starts, he has allowed just an earned run on four hits to go with 14 strikeouts over 13.0 innings in wins against the Kansas City Royals at home and against the Minnesota Twins on the road.
Although the Padres have been frustrating their fans, especially because of the team’s letdown offense, it will be interesting to find out what the talented Juan Soto can do against Kluber. Soto is just 0-for-2 in his career against Kluber, a small sample size that doesn’t really tell much. The Padres might also get a great performance from Rougned Odor, who is 10-for-22 with three home runs against the former two-time Cy Young Award winner.
Starting pitcher: Michael Wacha (4-1, 4.06 ERA)
JefeBet Prediction
The Padres show the potential of their bats by getting early to Kluber. Wacha continues his splendid showing and does a very good job of keeping Boston’s offense in control.
Prediction: The Padres win, 5-4.
