Betting on the San Diego Padres

Padres vs Phillies prediction odds betting odds game 5 MLB postseason October 23, 2022
  • Regular Season Record: 89-73
  • Regular season vs Phillies: 3-4
  • Runline of BetMGM: -189
  • Moneyline of BetMGM: +115
  • Over/Under from BetMGM (6.5): -115 / -105

It was predictable, and even we anticipated it in our Game 4 prediction. Mike Clevinger, who was in charge of opening the previous game of this series for the San Diego Padres, failed to record a single out and allowed three hits, three runs and gave up a base on balls before being retired in what he will remember as the worst game of his career.

That squandered a four-run lead in the first inning for the Padres, which would just go to waste a few innings later when Sean Manaea also had a horrible performance, allowing 5 runs in 1.1 innings.

San Diego now finds itself in need of winning this game to stay alive, and will look to Yu Darvish to avoid another disaster in the early innings, with the Japanese veteran pitching a 7.0 inning gem in which he allowed three hits and two runs in Game 1 of this series, although his team’s lack of offense ultimately credited him with the loss.

Starting Pitcher: Yu Darvish (16-8, 3.10 ERA, 0.95 WHIP)

Injured: Drew Pomeranz (elbow), Austin Adams (forearm).

Betting on the Philadelphia Phillies

It was no secret to anyone, but the Phillies appeared to come into this MLB Postseason Championship Series bringing the best offense among all four remaining teams, and if any doubt remained of this, yesterday’s game serves to prove it. In ten games this postseason, Philadelphia surpassed the five runs scored threshold six times, which speaks volumes considering the quality of pitching at this stage of the season.

If we add to this hot lineup their starter for this game, Zack Wheeler, who allowed just one hit and no runs in 7.0 innings in the first game of this series, then we can count on the Phillies to finish this home stand and reach their first World Series since 2009.

Starting Pitcher: Zack Wheeler (12-7, 2.82 ERA, 1.04 WHIP)

Injured: Corey Knebel (shoulder), Kent Emmanuel (shoulder), Damon Jones (shoulder), Simon Muzziotti (kneecap), James McArthur (elbow).

JefeBet Prediction

This will be the second game in which we have a Darvish vs Wheeler matchup on the mound, and the first one was a mere 2-0 in favor of the Phillies, and we don’t think this one will be much bigger this time around.

San Diego may have allowed 10 runs yesterday, but eight of them were loaded at Clevinger and Manaea, the two starters, who will probably not participate in this encounter, and their bullpen proved to be up to the task, so good performance by Darvish could be enough to make a difference to keep the Philadelphia lineup at bay.

The same can be said for the Phillies, as four of the six runs they allowed were on behalf of their starter, while the other two allowed were by their closer Brad Hand. The Padres could have used Game 1 to study Wheeler, but we’re confident that at home he can do things well enough, plus Wheeler didn’t allow more than one run in his last two appearances at Citizens Bank Park.

Prediction: Under (SD 3 – PHI 2)
