On the Yankees’ offensive side, there is little to say. Led by Aaron Judge, reigning American League MVP, the Bronx Bombers are poised to have one of the most potent attacks in the league by the end of the regular season.
New York’s management was capable to retain first baseman Anthony Rizzo, while the powerful Giancarlo Stanton and skilled D.J. LeMahieu also remain with the team. In addition, the young blood must also contribute, after prospect Anthony Volpe made the big team as the starting shortstop on Opening Day.
Just like with the Giants, there was no surprise in New York’s choice of opener for Opening Day with Cole on the mound. The right-hander ended last season as the leader in strikeouts throughout baseball with 257, although he was also first in home runs allowed with 33 in 200.2 innings pitched.
