Top 5 New York Mets Contracts in 2022

The New York Mets made several major moves recently, and in this list we will mention the top 5 contracts heading into the 2022 Major League Baseball season.

Starling marte

Starling Marte is one of New York’s newest backfield reinforcements after reaching an agreement that guarantees him an annual salary of US$15,750,000.

The Dominican outfielder stood out with the Miami Marlins and with the Oakland Athletics in the last campaign, posting a remarkable .310 average and .383 OBP.

Marte not only provides consistent hitting, he is also one of the fastest players in the entire league. Last year he recorded 47 stolen bases.

Robinson Canó

Robinson Canó could not show his level in 2021 due to a suspension, but that does not prevent him from remaining one of the ballplayers with the best annual salary at $24 million dollars.

The 39-year-old veteran played with Estrellas Orientales in the LIDOM, and he represented the Dominican team in the Caribbean Series. These are signs that we are talking about a player who has the desire to regain his place as the Mets’ second baseman.

Canó has a lifetime MLB total of 2,624 hits, with 334 home runs and 1,302 RBIs. He also has an excellent .303 average.

Jacob deGrom

Jacob deGrom is the most dominant right-handed pitcher in MLB, and that gives him enough right to have one of the best contracts in the Queens franchise.

The starter has a contract that secures him an annual salary of $36 million for the 2022 season.

Despite his great performances, it is possible that his current physical problems prevent him from getting another long-term MLB contract, considering he is 33 years old.

In 2021, deGrom finished with a record of 7 wins and 2 losses, with an ERA of 1.08 and WHIP of 0.55. In addition, he totaled 146 strikeouts in only 92 innings.

Francisco Lindor

Francisco Lindor arrived in New York to become the new star of the Mets, something that meant an annual base salary of $32 million.

Though, the Puerto Rican infielder has failed to live up to the high expectations. However, his superstar status remains and it is expected that in the coming campaign he will be able to improve significantly, with numbers similar to those he achieved with the Cleveland Indians.

In his first campaign with the Mets, Lindor totaled 20 homers and 63 RBIs, with a poor .322 OBP.

Max Scherzer

Max Scherzer’s signing with the Mets was a tremendous blow before the MLB lockout, with an annual salary in that surpasses the $43 million dollars.

At 37 years of age, the right-handed starter is going through the final stretch of his major league career, although that does not prevent him from maintaining the command of his pitches and, above all, his hunger for competitiveness.

After winning the World Series with the Washington Nationals and, most recently, commanding the rotation of the mighty Los Angeles Dodgers, Scherzer arrives in New York to form an all-star duo with Jacob deGrom.

These 5 players are the best players of a franchise that is betting on returning to the World Series in 2022, after going through a disappointing campaign. Undoubtedly, the work of new owner, Steven Cohen, has been crucial, and he has made great efforts to put together the best possible roster to fight the Atlanta Braves for the NL East Division pennant.
