The Yankees are coming off a 1-0 loss on the road at the hands of the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday to end a three-game series. That being said, New York is still looking good overall this season. At 34-24 and with a 4-1 record over their last five games, the Yankees will look to get back to their winning ways when they hand the ball to Luis Severino this Friday.
Severino is all set to make just his third start of the season, and so far, he’s been money for New York. Over his last two starts, Severino has allowed only two earned runs on five hits with 10 strikeouts across 31.0 innings. On offense, New York can always count on Aaron Judge, who has been a monster with the bat. He is batting .298 with 18 home runs and 39 RBI this year. Anthony Rizzo could also be returning to action this Friday. He is hitting .304 with 11 home runs and 32 RBI this season.

Like the Yankees, the Dodgers are also fresh off a loss to the Washington Nationals on Wednesday to the tune of a 10-6 score. However, they will go from the struggling Noah Syndergaard as their starter in that game to the more dependable Clayton Kershaw for this series opener. Kershaw also is a terror on the mound especially when he’s at home this season. In four starts at Dodger Stadium, the future Hall of Famer has gone 3-1 with a 1.13 ERA with opposing hitters batting just .184 against him in those contests.
Mookie Betts’ eyes should light up when he sees Severino on the mound, as he is hitting a career .281 with five walks in his career against the Yankees pitcher. JD Martinez is also 8-for-20 with two walks in his matchup versus Severino. And then of course, Freddie Freeman is always a threat. He is batting .346 with 10 home runs and 35 RBI this year.
