Boston had a sizzling start in Game 1 but they couldn’t stop James Harden and the Sixers, either. Nevertheless, the Celtics will get another shot at winning at home before heading to the City of Brotherly Love for Games 3 and 4. Jayson Tatum went off for 39 points on 14/25 shooting in the series opener, while Jaylen Brown had 23 points on 8/10 shooting.
As a team, the Celtics shot 58.7 percent from the field, as they capitalized on the absence of Joel Embiid’s presence in the middle. In most other games, the Celtics would have won that game in lopsided fashion, so their loss last Monday will now just serve as a lesson for Boston. Marcus Smart was too erratic in Game 1, as he had six of the Celtics’ 16 turnovers. It’s frustrating, but it’s also something the Celtics can fix right away.

In case you’ve forgotten, James Harden is still a dangerous player. The Beard unloaded a massive performance in Game 1 versus the Celtics, as he scored 45 points on 17/30 shooting from the floor, even draining that dagger 3-pointer in the clutch that gave Philly the lead for good. Joel Embiid sat out Game 1 because of a sprained right LCL and there’s a chance that he will miss Game 2 for the same reason.
Nevertheless, the Sixers showed they can handle his absence, thanks to Harden, Tyrese Maxey, and Tobias Harris. Paul Reed will get another start if Embiid misses another game. Reed looked fine in Game 1, as he generated 10 points and 13 rebounds. He’s not going to dominate like Embiid, but he can be an efficient member of a Philly supporting cast that always has the potential to have its ceiling raised so long as Harden is healthy.
JefeBet Prediction
The Celtics aren’t going to shoot close to 60% again from the field, but they’ll limit their errors and control the pace of Game 2 by winning the rebounding battle and forcing more turnovers from the Sixers.
Prediction: The Celtics win, 113-103.
