The Celtics have no room for mistakes going forward. In order to make it to the 2023 NBA Finals, Boston will have to pull off what no team in the history of the NBA has ever done, and that’s winning a playoff series after losing the first three games of a series.
That is going to be easier said than done for the Celtics, but it still needs to be said that they have the talent and the tools to beat Miami, even for just one game. After such a lackluster showing in Game 3, there’s just no way but up for Boston, which is averaging 107.7 points on 45.7 percent shooting from the field in the series. The Celtics can also hope for some regression from Miami, which is shooting 51.9 percent from the field and 47.8 percent from behind the arc. The Celtics are 7-3 against the spread in their last 10 games after a loss.

Miami is about to accomplish what a few weeks ago seem unthinkable and that’s winning the Eastern Conference title. The Heat did not even need a huge performance from Jimmy Butler to thwart the Celtics in Game 3. Instead, the Heat leaned on the exploits of their unheralded, undrafted trio of Caleb Martin, Max Strus, and Duncan Robinson.
As a team, Miami shot 56.8 percent from the field and went 19/35 (54.3%) from deep. While those shooting splits appear to be difficult to sustain, the Heat will continue to keep Boston’s defense honest. Plus, the Heat’s defense is also taking care of business. Tatum is shooting just 45.5 percent in the series, while Jaylen Brown has been held down to only 37.7 FG%. Miami has also limited the Celtics to only 29.2 percent shooting from behind the arc. It also appears that Boston is demoralized, as it can’t entirely process yet what just hit it in the Eastern Conference Finals. The Heat must be raring to pounce on a shocked Celtics squad.
