The youngest roster of the Gregg Popovich era has already won its first game with the Spurs defeating Indiana in a battle of points on Friday night.
After starting the season with the wrong foot with a home loss to the Hornets, Keldon Johnson and the rest of the team evened their record in a game in which as many as four players on the team scored more than 20 points .
Josh Richardson was the best scorer, with 27 points in 28 minutes after coming off the bench. Johnson, who was San Antonio’s standout against Charlotte, and who is expected to be the star of the team this year, chipped in with another 23 points and six assists.
Of course, it wasn’t all joy for Popovich. His team has been very bad on the defensive end, allowing 129 points to the Hornets, and now, 134 to the Pacers, including 49 points in a fourth quarter where they nearly blew a 17-point lead.
Betting on the Philadelphia 76ers
- Regular season record: 0-2.
- Spread: -12.5.
- BetMGM Moneyline: (-909).
- Over/Under: 223.5.
Philadelphia must not be happy after starting the campaign with two losses against direct rivals in the Eastern Conference such as the Celtics and Bucks.
In Thursday night’s opener game at home, the 76ers were unable to achieve a full comeback. They started the final quarter losing by ten points and having a shot by James Harden that could have given them the chance to get on top with less than 10 seconds left on the shot clock.
Giannis Antetokounmpo’s 21 points and a three-pointer by Wesley Matthews put Milwaukee up at 23.8 seconds left to the end of the game, a game in which Harden finished with 31 points without the help of Joel Embiid.
Philadelphia’s star scored 15 points in the first half, but in the second half he did not score a single point because of the scoring of Greek and Robin Lopez. Their performance should improve for the game against the Spurs, a team which defense has not been looking good at all.
JefeBet Prediction
While it’s unclear whether the young team of San Antonio will be able to score much against Philadelphia’s defense, it is clear that, at home, the 76ers could have a blast against the Spurs, a team that has struggled against its opponents in the first two clashes of the year.
In addition, in the last five meetings between the two teams, points have fallen everywhere and the Over has a 4-1 record, while in the last seven meetings in Philadelphia, the high has occurred on five of those occasions.
Prediction: Over (SA 106 – PHI 119).
