Betting on the Phoenix Suns
- Regular Season Record: 45-37
“We’ve got our work cut out for us,” Kevin Durant said after the Suns’ 125-107 home loss to Denver in the series opener. Durant had 29 points on 12/19 shooting from the field to go with 14 rebounds, but he repeatedly shot Phoenix in the foot, as he committed seven of his team’s 16 turnovers. Obviously, the Suns need to cut down on their errors and avoid giving an already offensively efficient Denver offense extra possessions.
That also falls on the shoulders of Deandre Ayton, who scored just 14 points with seven rebounds and four personal fouls in Game 1. As the primary defender of Nikola Jokic and the Suns’ best bet on the glass, Phoenix will have to coax more production on both ends of the court from Ayton, who is still averaging 15.7 points on 54.5 percent shooting from the field in the playoffs.
Betting on the Denver Nuggets
- Regular Season Record: 53-29
The Nuggets showed Phoenix why they are the team to beat in the West – and not Phoenix. Jamal Murray poured in 34 points on 13/24 shooting, dazzling the crowd at Ball Arena with an array of insane shots. Jokic, meanwhile, scored 2 points to go with 19 rebounds and five assists. Apart from Murray’s hot hands, Denver also relied on its stout rebounding, grabbing 49 boards to just 38 by Phoenix.
So far, it just looks as though the Suns have no answer for Jokic’s offense and rebounding. Durant, Ayton, and Bismack Biyombo all failed in slowing down Jokic, who is now averaging 25.8 points, 13.5 rebounds, and 8.3 assists in the playoffs. Aaron Gordon had 23 points and six rebounds in 39 minutes, as he flexed his muscle on both ends. Everything clicked for the Nuggets in Game 1, and who’s to say the No. 1 seed in the West can’t do that again in Game 2?
JefeBet Prediction
The Suns show more signs of life in Game 2. Durant limits his errors, as he teams up with Devin Booker to make Phoenix much more competitive this time around. Expecting a Suns cover this Monday.
Prediction: The Nuggets win, 110-108.
