Betting on the Minnesota Timberwolves
- Regular Season Record: 42-40
The Timberwolves got absolutely blown out of the water in Game 1, as they tasted a 109-80 road loss to Denver last Sunday. Not a few thought that Minnesota will be able to score an upset win in the series opener versus the Nuggets, with Denver seemingly vulnerable to rust after a long rest, but that simply was not the case in Game 1.
Some adjustments Minnesota is expected to make should have the team competing much better in Game 2, expected in terms of aggressiveness and physicality, the lack thereof was rued by Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch. Minnesota is expecting to coax more from Karl-Anthony Towns in Game 2 after he scored just 11 points on 5/15 shooting in Game 1. They also need to continue attacking the defense of Nikola Jokic, who fouled out in the series opener. The Timberwolves are 6-2 ATS in their last eight games against a team with a winning record.
Betting on the Denver Nuggets
- Regular Season Record: 53-29
The Nuggets made a massive statement in Game 1 about why they are the best team in the Western Conference. Despite several days of rest, Denver started the 2023 NBA Playoffs like a house on fire. The Nuggets shot 16/39 from behind the arc in Game 1 and were +16 in the rebounding battle, 54-38.
Jokic fouled out but not before torching Minnesota for 13 points, 14 rebounds, and six assists. He really did not have to do much because the likes of Jamal Murray, Michael Porter Jr., and Aaron Gordon were sizzling on offense. The wing guys for the Nuggets are going to be a headache to contain for the Timberwolves for the rest of the series, with Gordon, Porter Jr, and even Bruce Brown all thriving in space and in support of Jokic. The Nuggets are 5-2 ATS in their last seven games overall.
JefeBet Prediction
The Timberwolves are not going to play as flatly as they did in Game 1 when they started the first and second halves poorly. Expect Minnesota to also shoot better as well, with Towns, in particular, being more efficient with the ball.
Prediction: The Nuggets win, 112-108.
