For the first time in 15 years, LSU can say it is bound for the women’s national semifinals round after scoring a 54-42 win last Sunday in the Elite Eight round over the Miami Hurricanes. The Tigers’ defense was unforgiving in that game, and was the major reason why they survived the challenge of Miami. The Tigers shot just 30.2 percent from the field but limited Miami to just 31.6 field goal percentage.
They also forced Miami to cough up the ball a total of 18 times. Although LSU carries the reputation of being a high-scoring team, as it is fifth nationally with an average of 81.8 points per game, its suffocating defense is taking the center stage for the team in the national tournament. So far in the tourney, the Tigers have allowed just 49.3 points on a salty 33.8 percent shooting from the floor.
Betting on the Virginia Tech Hokies
- Regular Season Record: 30-4
- Moneyline: +115
- Spread: +2
- Over/Under: 134
The Hokies are not done yet. Virginia Tech just booked the school’s first-ever ticket to the women’s Final Four round in the NCAA tournament after eliminating the Ohio State Buckeyes Monday night via an 84-74 victory.
The tandem of Elizabeth Kitley and Georgia Amoore proved to be too much to handle for the Buckeyes. Kitley finished with 25 points with 12 rebounds, while Amoore had 24 points with four 3-pointers. Kitley could be a matchup problem for LSU, as the 6-6 senior center is taller by two inches than any player from the side of the Tigers.
That inside-outside combo of Kitley and Amoore will provide a tough challenge for the Tigers, who will also have to deal with Virginia Tech’s balanced form. The Hokies are tops in the ACC with a +22.6 net rating, ranking in the conference No. 1 as well in offensive rating (105.4) and fourth in defensive rating (82.9).
JefeBet Prediction
Kitley and Amoore are one ough combo to slow down, let alone stop. Look for them to lead Virginia Tech anew to a close victory in the Final Four versus LSU.
Prediction: Virginia Tech wins, 63-61.
