Betting on the Memphis Tigers
- Regular Season Record: 25-8
The Tigers showed their readiness for the AAC championship game by scoring a whopping 94-54 win over the Tulane Green Wave in the semis. Memphis did not show any mercy at the Green Wave, as the Tigers made Tulane bleed for points. The Green Wave shot just 25.8 percent from the field and committed 15 turnovers.
Slowing down Houston is going to be easier said than done for the Tigers, but given their form on defense and the possibility that the Cougars will be without their top scorer in Marcus Sasser due to injury, Memphis now has a stronger belief that it can pull off an upset this Sunday and earn an auto-bid for March Madness. Memphis finished the regular season 16th in the nation with 79.9 points per game and second in the AAC with a 36.3 3FG%. The Tigers are shooting well from deep of late, having drained 22 3-pointers on 49 attempts in their last two outings.
Betting on the Houston Cougars
- Regular Season Record: 31-2
With or without Sasser, Houston is a force to reckon with. Sasser suffered a lower-body injury and had to leave the game early Saturday against the Cincinnati Bearcats in the semis, but that did not matter for the Cougars, who went on to score a 69-48 victory. J’Wan Roberts and Jamal Shead led the Cougars in that game with 16 points apiece, while Jarrace Walker chipped in 13 points and eight rebounds.
Roberts, Shead, and Walker are a dangerous trio to deal with. It can expose Memphis on both ends of the floor. The Cougars are 11th in the nation with a 118.9 adjusted offensive efficiency and fourth in adjusted defensive efficiency. Sasser is also a game-time decision, so there’s a chance still that he will ultimately be given the green light to play against Memphis, which already tasted two defeats at the hands of Houston back in the regular season.
