When they defeated the Kansas State Wildcats in the Sweet 16 round, the Owls rode their incredible job on the glass, coming away with 44 rebounds to just 22 by KSU. San Diego State will present a whole new challenge for the Owls, though. The Aztecs’ defense has been on a different level of late.
Even the No. 1 seed Alabama Crimson Tide couldn’t solve the Aztecs, as they shot just 32.4 percent from the field in the Sweet 16 round. When they beat the Creighton Bluejays in the Elite Eight round, the Aztecs held the Big East team down to only 40.0 FG%.
Prediction: San Diego State wins, 72-69.
Miami Hurricanes vs Connecticut Huskies
This matchup is the classic offense vs. defense showdown. On one hand, we have the Hurricanes, who have been tearing it up in the NCAA tournament with their high-octane attack. Miami, which is averaging close to 80 points per game, thwarted the Texas Longhorns in the Elite Eight round. Prior to that, they humbled the No. 1 seed Houston Cougars. In both games, the Hurricanes scored at least 88 points.
On the other hand, we have the Huskies, who just shut down an offensive juggernaut on their way to the Final Four. We are talking about the 82-54 destruction the Huskies unleashed on the Gonzaga Bulldogs in the Elite Eight. On the season, the Huskies are allowing just 64.4 points per game and limiting opponents to just 44.8 eFG%.
Prediction: Connecticut wins, 81-75.
