Betting on the Princeton Tigers
- Regular Season Record: 22-8
Princeton has done it. The Ivy Leaguers have stunned the No. 2 Arizona Wildcats in the first round of the NCAA tournament, 59-55.
It’s amazing how the Tigers were able to quell Arizona’s offense. Princeton doesn’t even have the best defense in the Ivy League, but it somehow found a way to hold the Wildcats to over 20 points fewer than Arizona’s scoring average in the 2022-23 college basketball season. Tosan Evbuomwan, Princeton’s best player, scored 15 points to lead the Tigers in the first round, while the team as a whole won the rebounding battle, 38-37.
The win over Arizona was the first in the NCAA tournament for Princeton since 1998, and the Tigers will look to continue riding their momentum against a Mizzou squad that committed 15 personal fouls in the first round. Missouri fouls a lot. It’s got one of the highest foul rates in the nation, so Princeton could see plenty of chances to get points on the free-throw line if it stays aggressive, especially.
Betting on the Missouri Tigers
- Regular Season Record: 25-9
Mizzou had a rather easy ride in the first round. It prevented an upset by downing the Utah State Aggies, 76-65, thanks to an excellent offense that saw the Tigers shoot 50 percent from the field and 40 percent from the 3-point area. Missouri drained 10 of 25 attempts from deep, which is the third time in its last five games in which it drained at least that many triples.
On paper, Arizona is a much better team than Missouri, but the latter is all warmed up and won’t have to worry a whole lot about jitters. Plus, the Tigers have defeated the likes of the Tennessee Volunteers, Kentucky Wildcats, and Arkansas Razorbacks this season.
They can definitely handle Princeton, which were lucky to get away with a win over Arizona despite shooting just 40.6 FG% and 16 3FG%. Princeton might not be as lucky this time around, as Mizzou was fifth nationally in the regular season with an opponent’s’ 24.3% turnover rate and second with a 14.6% steals rate.
JefeBet Prediction
The road ends here for Princeton, which will turn the ball over a lot of times in the face of an incredibly relentless Missouri defense.
Prediction: Missouri wins, 75-60.
