Betting on the West Virginia Mountaineers

  • Regular Season Record: 15-9

West Virginia looked in control during its first meeting with the Texas Longhorns last January at home, but a horrible second half doomed the Mountaineers. Nevertheless, West Virginia must have still made a strong impression on Texas, especially guard Kedrian Johnson, who scored a career-high 22 points. Johnson has been putting up some impressive scoring performances of late, and he’ll just need his teammates to step up as well in Austin.

It is going to be easier said than done, but if the Mountaineers managed to keep their turnovers at a minimum unlike in the January showdown versus Texas, they should be fine this coming Saturday.
The Mountaineers are 2-1 against the spread in their last three road games.

Betting on the Texas Longhorns

  • Regular Season Record: 19-5

The Longhorns failed to get past the Kansas Jayhawks last Monday, losing in Lawrence to the tune of an 88-80 score. Texas is now 8-3 in Big 12 play still and can take heart from the fact that it has won seven of its last 10 games overall. That 10-game stretch includes the Longhorns’ 69-61 win in Morgantown over West Virginia on Jan. 21.

In that game, Marcus Carr went off for 23 points on 8/14 shooting from the field. Scoring hasn’t been much of a problem for the Longhorns this season, as they are 19th nationally with an average of 79.4 points per game. The Longhorns, who are 4-2 against the spread in their last six games overall, are 13-1 in 14 contests as the home team.

JefeBet Prediction

Texas is nearly unbeatable at home this season, but West Virginia is no joke. The wheels fell off for the Mountaineers in the second half of the first meeting with the Longhorns, and we’re counting on WVU to play with more consistency this time around.

Prediction: West Virginia covers the spread.
