We continue this week in MLB with several interesting bets in the lineup of games available for Tuesday, May 3, including the return of old acquaintances, resurgent pitchers and much more.
Stay with us as we tell you about some bets that you can tale into account for tonight.
MLB Betting: Padres vs Guardians
Padres wins (-135)
Many of you may have forgotten that Mike Clevinger is part of the San Diego organization, and you can’t blame them for that. Since his arrival in 2020, the pitcher has not been able to make many appearances while recovering from Tommy John surgery in addition to other injuries. Now, he has the opportunity to pitch again against the team that saw him make his Major League debut.
The Padres offensive comes in like a bullet after averaging 7 runs per game in their last two series against lower level teams like the Reds and Pirates. The Guardians have had a more respectable season with a 10-12 record so far, but the problem lies within their starter.
While Zach Plesac has had quality starts in three of his last four appearances on the mound, he also has put a lot of players on the road, as evidenced by his WHIP of 1.31. This high statistic is largely due to the fact that he has given up seven hits in three straight appearances, and the Angels were able to take advantage of this in his most recent start, scoring six runs against him.
That ability that opposing hitters have to connect hits on him will be somewhat exploitable considering he’s facing a team with Eric Hosmer and Manny Machado, who currently lead MLB in batting average hitting .382 and .375, respectively.
MLB Betting Odds: Giants vs Dodgers
Less than 7.5 runs (-154)
While Julio Urias has been regarded in recent years as one of the most consistent pitchers there is in all of MLB, in addition to the celebrated postseason in which he helped the Dodgers win the World Series in 2020, what Carlos Rodón has done in recent seasons appears to have gone unnoticed.
Rodon, who had an ERA above 5.00 in five of his first six seasons with the Chicago White Sox, completely reinvented his game in 2021, being one of Chicago’s star pitchers with a 2.37 ERA in 24 starts, including a no-hit, no-run game, which was less than perfect because of only one hit ball. Since his arrival to the Giants this year, nothing has changed: Rodon has had quality starts in each of his first four plate appearances, including one game in which he allowed no runs against an excellent Mets offense.
In addition, Rodon is sixth in the MLB in strikeouts with 38 total, and his 1.17 ERA is the third best in all of Major League Baseball. Considering the Dodgers’ struggles with the bat,we are confident that he can do a better job this time to keep the score low, although his last start was not his best (2.0 innings, 6 hits, 3 runs batted in, 2 walks, 0 strikeouts).
MLB Betting: Nationals vs Rockies
More than 10 races (-132)
What happens if you combine Coors Field, a fired-up offense and lousy pitching? You have all the elements in place for an extremely appealing run encounter. The Washington Nationals find themselves last in their division for one reason: the work of their pitching staff has been dismal to date.
Washington boasts the second-worst combined ERA in all of MLB (5.08) as well as the second-worst WHIP (1.49), and opponents are batting a whopping .265 average, which only gets worse at Denver’s altitude. Their scheduled pitcher for today, Erick Fedde, has not performed badly at all, with two quality starts in four appearances to date, but he hasn’t been able to exceed 5 innings pitched in either of his last two starts, and that could become a problem.
In their previous series at this venue, the Rockies faced the Reds, who are the team with the worst records in MLB in terms of ERA and WHIP. Do you know what was the result? Well, they scored ten runs in two of the three games, although it is expected that they will also allow some runs in the process.
