There is no question who the superior boxer is between Fury and Ngannou. Fury has been boxing all his life and at the elite level for the majority of his career. There are questions about how Fury’s shape heading into his first fight since knocking out Derek Chisora in December of last year, but even if he’s not at 100 percent, the Gyspy King should have enough in him to take down someone with no professional boxing experience like Ngannou.

Outside of the obvious disparity in boxing experience, Fury also has physical advantages over Ngannou. Fury is taller by around five inches and has a two-inch reach advantage. Ngannou has legitimate knockout power, though, it’s yet to be tested in a boxing match. Even if he lands some good ones of Fury, the latter has shown he can absorb powerful shots, having survived and finished all three fights against Deontay Wilder.

The only way most people see Ngannou scoring an upset victory against Fury is via a knockout — and he will have to do it without resorting to leg kicks, obviously. Speaking of knockouts, Ngannou has 12 knockout wins in his MMA career.  That, of course, includes his sensational knockout of Alistair Overeem at UFC 218. The challenge for Ngannou is less about his power and more about whether he can land clean shots on Fury.

Ngannou has never been knocked out, as well. The last time he saw action was when he scored a unanimous decision victory over Ciryl Gane at UFC 270 in January 2022. That was over a year ago, so he will be coming into this showdown against Fury likely with more rust than his opponent.

El Jefe’s Prediction on Tyson Fury vs Francis Ngannou
