Defender Carlos Salcedo will not be allowed to see action with Toronto FC in the upcoming match against Philadelphia Union in Week 7 of MLS after receiving a red card in the 2-2 draw against Real Salt Lake.

Salcedo moved from Tigres of Liga MX to Toronto FC of MLS so as to continue his soccer career. So far, he has played in five of the six games played by the Canadian team this MLS season, as he was suspended prior to the match against Columbus Crew on March 12.

On that occasion, the Mexican defender was punished for a hard tackle in the match against the New York Red Bulls. The MLS Disciplinary Committee determined the suspension of one game and a financial fine for a tackle with excessive force.

A month later, Carlos Salcedo repeats history. During the final stretch of the second half of the match against Real Salt Lake, the player tried to prevent an opponent from connecting with the ball with his head. He lifted his leg and when the Real Sal Lake player headed in, he was kicked in the face by Salcedo.

The referee immediately issued a red card, penalizing the Mexican defender’s action.

Which Match Will Carlos Salcedo Miss Due to the Red Card?

Toronto will face Philadelphia Union on April 16 and they will play without Carlos Salcedo. For now, only the suspension of the match is known, and there is no information about a possible financial fine whatsoever. He is an important loss for the Canadian team, as he has been a starter in the five games he has played in.

In addition, this will not be an easy commitment, as Philadelphia is the leader of the Eastern Conference with 16 units. Being the only remaining undefeated in the MLS season. Toronto, on the other hand, is in eighth place in the same zone with only eight points.

Despite the unfortunate play that led to his sending-off, Salcedo posted a tweet cheering the team on as they earned a point away from home.

That post on the player’s account was RT’d by Toronto FC’s official account, so it seems they are not upset about the Mexican’s second suspension.
