Javier Chofis López uploaded a story to his Instagram account to end the rumors that questioned his continuity with the MLS team.
The Mexican soccer player, Javier López, better known as “Chofis” López, who came from Chivas, emigrated to the United States in 2021 to play with the San Jose Earthquakes. He began with several outstanding performances, but injuries have prevented him from keeping up his good performance. Until now, he has played 37 games with the Californian squad, accumulating 2,544 minutes and registering 13 goals and three assists.
His last injury was a thigh injury and he was out of action for two months. He entered the game between San Jose and Sporting Kansas City as a substitute on May 23 and played 22 minutes, but he did not return to the squad after that, not even for training.
That caused a series of rumors indicating that the player was almost out of the MLS team.
Chofis López appeared on his social networks to explain why he has not shown up for training with the Earthquakes .
Chofis López Was Mugged in Guadalajara
The native of Torreón said that he was mugged recently during his visit to Guadalajara and that, among the things that were stolen, were his passport and visa. As a result, he is stranded in Mexico until he can complete the proper procedures to return to the United States.
Some assured that Chofis López’s visit to Guadalajara was due to the fact that he was close to returning to the “Rebaño Sagrado”, since when he left for the MLS, he did so on loan and this is about to expire. However, despite the fact that at this time the player cannot travel, San José can still make the purchase option valid.
With his statements, López makes it clear that he is still a player for the California franchise.
In the current Major League Soccer season, López has only seen action in four games so far, totaling 234 minutes. He scored a goal on matchday one, in a 1–3 loss to the New York Red Bulls .
His team at this time is located in the thirteenth position of the Western Conference, after three wins, six draws and six losses in 15 games played.
