The joy of being one of the goalkeepers for Club América against Real Madrid did not last long for Oscar Jiménez, who on Tuesday night was the victim of a robbery while playing in the friendly against the Spanish team.
According to Mexican journalist Carlos Jiménez’s Twitter account, two or three criminals broke into Oscar Jiménez’s residence in Coyoacán, Mexico City,where they opened a safe and took 400 thousand pesos in cash.
When the goalkeeper learned of the event, he was in San Francisco, playing the last game of América’s friendly tour through the United States.
In his report, Jiménez added that the Mexico City Attorney General’s Office and Mexico City’s Secretariat of Citizen Security have already taken action and are investigating the robbery at the home of the Azulcrema player.
Jiménez came on in the 32nd minute in place of starter Guillermo Ochoa and after a very good performance, he conceded a goal in the 55th minute, via penalty, by Eden Hazard.

In a statement published on Wednesday, Mariana Echeverría, Oscar Jiménez’s wife and renowned Mexican actress and broadcaster, commented on the robbery, stating that she would not make any statements at this time pending further investigation of the case.
“Recently, while I was out of Mexico City, I had the misfortune of thieves breaking into my house and stealing various items. This was a situation that forced me to return and start all the procedures at the public prosecutor’s office… In view of this fact and in order not to obstruct the investigations, I have agreed to refrain from interviews.”

Likewise, Echevarría clarified that the house where the robbery took place is not the property of Manuel “Piojo” Herrera, current Tigres manager, as journalist Carlos Jiménez suggested in his first report on the unfortunate event.
