Dalton Schultz has informed the Dallas Cowboys that he will not attend the remainder of the team’s voluntary sessions. This is because he hopes there will be progress in the negotiations for his extension.
Dalton Schultz is trying to put pressure on the Cowboys, since in March they labeled him as a franchise player, assuring him at least a year of contract, but the player is waiting to sign a long-term agreement with the Texan franchise, and it is something that has not yet has happened.
The #86 of the Dallas Cowboys, signed the franchise player tag for the amount of $10.9 million dollars. Three months have passed since then, and Schultz seems to be desperate, and that is why he has decided not to appear in the OTAs.
According to Tom Pelissero, a reporter for the NFL Network, the aforementioned amount would be his guaranteed salary if he does not sign another agreement with the franchise before July 15.
Perhaps Dalton Schultz would have been calmer if he didn’t know that the Cleveland Browns offered David Njoku a four-year, $56.75 million contract extension. And it is that both were labeled as franchise players in March.
Dalton Schultz Seeks Long-Term Extension
The player knows that he has been an important part of the Cowboys’ offense, especially in the passing game, and it is very likely that the team knows it too, but until now we do not know the reasons why they have not made him an offer.
Schultz had 63 receptions for 613 yards and four touchdowns in 2020. But without a doubt, the best season of his career was 2021, where he registered 78 receptions for 808 yards and eight touchdowns, taking the place of tight end #1 in the Texan franchise.
So far we only know the player’s decision for OTAs, but June 14-16 will start the Dallas Cowboys’ mandatory mini-training camp, and it’s unclear whether the player will attend. If he skips the mini training camp, he would be fined, and we don’t know how good this exchange with the organization is for him.
The Cowboys have not said anything about it after learning of Schultz’s position.
