Darvin Ham did not think much about it in his inaugural speech as coach of the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday, confessing what he considers to be the key to the team’s success next season.
According to Mike Trudell, from Spectrum SportsNet, the new coach of the Los Angeles team ruled that its success for 2022-23 does not depend on LeBron James, but on what Anthony Davis can do on the court.
His skill set, his size, his defensive acumen and his relentless defense is key. It’s going to be the basis for the kind of standard that we set in our game… We need consistency from Anthony Davis. We need him to be healthy and playing championship-level basketball.

Last season, a large part of the Lakers being out of the postseason were Davis’ health problems, who for the second consecutive season could not play more than 40 games, including his absence in 21 of the last 24 matches of the 2021 -22.
In addition to the quality that Davis has demonstrated throughout his career on the circuit, we believe that Darvin Ham’s motivation for speaking so highly of the center stems from the fact that in the short time that he was on the court, his impact on the team was noticeable, averaging nearly 24 points and 10 rebounds per game. This was a more than necessary help for James.
Darvin Ham will make a few changes to his coaching staff
Coaches often prefer to surround themselves with people they can trust, and Darvin Ham is no exception.
The new Lakers coach would have notified David Fizdale, Mike Penberthy and John Lucas III that they won’t be on his bench, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Dave McMenamin. While Phil Handy and Quinton Crawford would be in his plans.
Ham is looking for assistants around the circuit and although it is expected tthat he takes a few weeks to make a final decision, it was learned that the former player, Rasheed Wallace, is one of the preferred candidates of the new coach.
