Draymond Green is not only one of the best defensive players in NBA history, but also one of the players who provides the best comments and opinions in each of his appearances before the media after every game.
Knowing this, why should the joyful player make an exception for Thursday night, following the Golden State Warriors’ third Playoffs first-round series triumph over the Denver Nuggets? He didn’t, obviously.
Once Green approached the microphones and was asked about his team’s performance, which came within one win of sweeping Denver and advancing in the Western Conference, he offered a series of praises and compliments to his teammates, while making a small reference to those players who, according to him, are not ready or prepared to play in these instances.
“You take a look around the league and realize that not everyone is cut out to play in the Playoffs. Some guys think they are, but they’re not. Playing in the Playoffs is totally different. They lack a lot of experience.”
Draymond Green on what it takes to make the playoffs
Green gave no clues as to whether he was talking about any specific player or was speaking in general about many stars who have been criticized in recent days for ill-timed comments about their rival teams. However, the three-time NBA championship ring winner, who has participated in eight postseasons, was quite direct in mentioning the great job his teammates have done in this series against the Nuggets.
“Jordan (Poole) is playing amazing. But Steph is feared, and the fear he generates he’s earned after years and years of dragging people down. They’re both incredible, but to me Steph’s gravity will always be different than anything else.”
Draymond Green on his teammates
Green has never minced words when it comes to making his opinions clear, and with the Warriors headed for a playoff berth, we’re sure to hear many more interesting statements from Mr. Green. And who knows, he might even drop some of those names that are unable to play in the postseason. That would be fun, wouldn’t it?
Draymond Green and how to manhandle Nikola Jokic
We don’t know if Draymond Green’s statements are directly related to Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic or to the attitude of any player on that team.
Green’s dominance over one of the MVP candidates for the 2021-2022 season is undeniable, to the point where the Serbian player lost his cool and was removed for a double technical foul in the second game of the series.
Draymond Green has played some of the best defense of his career and has not allowed Jokic to get comfortable on the backboard, following him all over the court and preventing him from comfortably hitting his mid-range shot.
Even a perfect score by Green against Jokic with less than 40 seconds left in the fourth quarter and Golden State leading by five points on the scoreboard might be the play that decides the series as it secured the Warriors’ third victory.
