Without shining, but with enough efficiency, the Bears enter NFL Week 4 with a good record and the possibility of improving it further this season.
The offense hasn’t been entirely successful, but thanks to the good work of its defense, the Chicago team shares first place in its division with the Packers and Vikings. In two of their first three games they have conceded 20 points or fewer, and against Houston they not only held them to 329 total yards, but forced two turnovers. Against the Giants, a team with an offense that is also quite weak, this good performance should continue.
However, in order for the defense’s success to be fully rewarded, the offense must react quickly. Everything hinges on Justin Fields, the young quarterback who has had a disastrous start, failing to gain more than 120 yards in any of his first three games and throwing more interceptions (4) than touchdown passes (2).
But it’s not all negative, as the Bears are second in average ground yards per game, which is a key factor against New York’s defense.
Betting on the New York Giants
- Regular Season record: 2-1
- BetMGM Spread: -3.0.
- Moneyline: (-182).
- Over/Under: 39.5.
After starting the season with two wins, the Giants were unable to hold on to a third quarter lead against the Cowboys and suffered their first loss.
New York’s good defense was overwhelmed during the second half by the Cowboys’ ground attack that finished with 176 yards. The Giants limited Dallas to six points in the first half, but Tony Pollard and Ezekiel Elliott combined for a comeback. This is something that certainly worries New York because the Bears are far more powerful in this way.
As for the offense, it was a poor showing after scoring only 16 points. While in the first two weeks the Giants had been able to keep the score under 21 points thanks to their good defense, this time the lack of offense took its toll. Daniel Jones threw for 196 yards with an interception and Saquon Barkley couldn’t do much despite rushing for 86 yards. Against Chicago, this may happen again.
JefeBet Prediction
While the line may be low for any other NFL matchup, for a matchup between these two teams it’s pretty decent. While the Bears have not scored more than 23 points, the Giants have yet to score more than 21.
Chicago’s offense has twice allowed fewer than 20 points, while New York’s offense has allowed 23 or fewer points through the first three weeks of action. In addition, four of the last five clashes between the two have resulted in a loss.
Prediction: Under (NY 16 – CHI 20).
