Betting on the Ole Miss Rebels (-7)
Regular season record: 1-0
Ole Miss kicked off its 2023 schedule with a bang, as the Rebels destroyed the Mercer Bears, 73-7. The Rebels were so dominant they crushed even the spread by a wide margin, as they entered that contest favorites to win by 35 points. Quarterback Jaxson Dart had an easy time dissecting the Bears’ defense, tossing four touchdowns and passing for 334 yards on 18/23 completions.
Dart had so much fun hooking up with transfer wide receiver Tre Harris, who showed what he can bring to the table for Ole Miss’ attack by pacing the team with 117 receiving yards and three touchdowns on five receptions and seven targets. Harris was an All-Conference USA honoree a season ago when he was still at Louisiana Tech, so his addition to the Rebels’ offense is clearly a tremendous boost for the team.
Betting on the Tulane Green Wave (+7)
Regular season record: 1-0
Like the Rebels, Tulane had a mesmerizing performance in Week 1, as the Green Wave wiped out the South Alabama Jaguars, 37-7. Quarterback Michael Pratt had a near-flawless showing under center, passing for 294 yards and four touchdowns with zero interceptions on 14/15 completions.
Pratt and the Green Wave’s passing attack flexed their deep-field muscles, with Pratt barely hesitating to wing it for big gains, and his confidence was rewarded by his receivers including Jha’Quan Jackson, who led the team with 106 receiving yards and two touchdowns on just three catches. The Green Wave also looked just as sharp defensively, as they forced South Alabama to commit four turnovers. Tulane also recorded five defensive sacks, a strong message to send to Dart and Ole Miss’ offensive line.
El Jefe’s Prediction on Ole Miss Rebels vs Tulane Green Wave
One has to come away impressed with the performance Pratt showed last week even though it was against a lowly opponent. Pratt will keep in step with Dart in an intriguing duel that the Rebels will win by a close margin.
Prediction:
Ole Miss wins, 34-29.
