Betting on the Cincinnati Bengals
The Bengals will need to perform well on Sunday, so as to maintain their edge in the AFC North lead fight they are currently in with the Ravens.
Cincinnati already proved they can win in Tennessee with their big postseason win last year, and Joe Burrow will again be the key in this crucial regular round clash. Running back Joe Mixon is in NFL concussion protocol, so the quarterback will likely have to single-handedly lead an offense that has scored more than 30 points in four of their last five games and more than 400 yards in three of the last four matchups.
For their part, the Bengals’ defense needs to improve a bit, considering that it has conceded more than 30 points in two of the last three games played. All year they have failed to effectively pressure the opposing QB by totaling just 16 sacks, the third-lowest amount in the league; however, they are the fifth team that allowed the fewest first downs with 182. This is definitely an average performance that has managed to go unnoticed thanks to the team’s good offense.
Betting on the Tennessee Titans
The Titans have comfortably assumed the lead in the AFC South and are all but guaranteed to return to the postseason after winning seven of their previous eight games.
In addition to keeping their hopes of finishing in the top two of the American Conference, the Tennessee team has to win its retaliation game against the Bengals in hopes of reducing their chances. If they want to do so, they must be a little clearer on offense, as they are the seventh team with the fewest points scored with 193 and the first with the fewest first downs scored with 160.
The key for them has been the defense’s performance, one of the most solid in the circuit. In the last seven games, no team has scored more than 20 points against them, while on the ground they have barely registered 822 total yards conceded, the second-lowest figure in the league, a very important fact considering that Mixon may not see action. They’ve had problems regarding the opponent’s passing game, as they have conceded 18 TDs, but they are also among the best in interceptions with nine in total.
JefeBet Prediction
The Bengals have won the series against the Titans in the recent past. Cincinnati has a 5-0 record playing against the spread over the previous five matchups, and 4-0 playing against the spread in Tennessee. Additionally, they have Joe Burrow’s outstanding offensive performance and the moral victory of last year’s postseason working in their favor.
But Joe Mixon’s absence may be significant. He’s not totally off the table, but Cincinnati’s attack becomes less dynamic without him. As they are very strong on the ground and won’t have many concerns, Tennessee’s strong defense knows they would only need to stop the passing game. Moreover, they are 3-1 at home this year and the Bengals are 3-3 on the road.
Prediction: Titans to win (TEN 23 – CIN 20).
